eatlunch’s cakes a big hit at Macmillan Cancer Support’s Big Coffee Morning

At eatlunch we are always happy to support a good cause, and our chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support is a great one.  Several of our clients at BioPark, Exemplas, btc and Ocado recently joined in with the world’s biggest coffee morning and naturally we were more than happy to provided coffee, tea and some of our yummy homemade cakes! We were delighted to hear that the events raised nearly £700 between them and were deemed a great success by all involved.

If reading this is making your mouth water, why don’t you treat yourself and put in an order for your next meeting. Wendy is currently doing a cordon bleu patisserie course which will be the perfect complement to our freshly brewed coffee.

If you visit us at the eatlunch café at the btc, let us tempt you to a mouthwatering cake with your afternoon tea or coffee for just £1 during the month of October. Pop in any weekday between 2-3pm and quote ‘cakeblog’.

A little more about Macmillan:
Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. Macmillan is here to make sure no one has to go through it alone. Whatever you raise, you will be helping to improve the lives of people affected by cancer across the UK. The world’s biggest coffee morning has raised over £5m to date. It’s not too late to donate – please visit http://coffee.macmillan.org.uk

Tell us who deserves a tasty treat

THIS week The Comet, in association with Hertfordshire corporate catering company eatlunch, has launched two initiatives – Cake for an Angel and Dinners for Winners – to celebrate good work within the community and to recognise business success in the area.

The first Cake for an Angel goes to Stevenage foster carer Sally Churms, who has received a selection of cakes in recognition of her hard work in providing a loving and stable environment for a deaf child.

Sally, of Manor View, has been described by Louise Mahrra, a colleague at Hitchin-based fostering agency SWAN Fostering Ltd, as showing “exceptional resilience”, overcoming “the difficulties faced from everyday general communication to more emotional and developmental needs”.

The first Dinners for Winners goes to Hermitage Sheet Metal in Hitchin, with staff receiving a buffet lunch in recognition of being the first company to receive a gold award from global defence and security company BAE Systems for demonstrating sustained excellence in quality and delivery performance. The company has also helped young people through the Hertfordshire Careers Service work experience programme.

If you wish to nominate an individual or a team who deserve a treat contact the Comet newsdesk on 01438 866200 or editorial@thecomet.net

Rain On Harvey Moon

With the hosepipe ban officially declared and the driest start to the first half of the year since 1929, it may take more than the avoidance of garden watering or the washing of the car to save our scarce reserves and the worst water crisis most of us have ever known!

As a small regional catering business we rely on water across many aspects of our daily operations to ensure food hygiene as well as safe and clean working environments...indeed across the hospitality sector water usage and the reduction of this valuable resource is another part of our environmental challenge....just rinsing the fresh fruit and vegetables every morning from a large open tap can have a flow of up to 40 litres per minute!

Many hotels and restaurants that have larger kitchens often scrape food into a channel that has a constant flow of water prior to going through a commercial dishwasher system and many operators are looking at ways to ensure that this can only be activated when required and or reducing the time period for the flow of each plate that requires to be cleaned.

At eatlunch we recycle 100% of our food waste to anaerobic digestion and we ensure that are dishwasher is fully loaded at all times on the most appropriate time and heat cycles to reduce both water consumption and energy costs.

By reviewing scheduling, catering businesses can often improve staff efficiency and reduce waste and water consumption such as allowing food to defrost naturally and safely in temperature controlled environments rather than using water to rapid defrost.

Prepared food by its very nature demands higher water usage to those foods cooked from chilled, although with our growing awareness towards healthier eating and better use of fresh local ingredients, this may present a different set of challenges as we strike the balance across a range of energy and resource needs.

eatpure opens 2nd cafe site in Welwyn Garden City

After the successful opening and development of the first eatpure cafe, sited at the Business Technology Centre in Bessemer Road Stevenage, the company is pleased to have partnered with the management team at BIOPARK in WGC to launch the second of its in house staff café and bistro facilities.

The base of this business model is to underpin the daily supply of pre-ordered buffet lunches for external clients, meeting rooms, seminars, training and general lunchtime provisions with an on-site facility that gives everyone working within the business environment access to a wide range of quality food and beverage options, in particular where there is a lack of good facilities in the area or staff have limited time in which to have their breaks.

The new facility has already had fantastic feedback on its range of hot soups and pies, homemade cakes and the wide selection of sandwiches, rolls and speciality breads from which customers can now select their daily favourites.

Much of the ethos of eatpure has been borne out of a desire to provide foods that are a little different from those find in most high Cafes and to support this with fantastic service and the tried and tested management and organisation skills that the company has developed through its eatlunch.co.uk brand and over 15 years in delivering large formal catering events.

“The initial focus has been to provide a small selection of hot meals which change on a daily and weekly basis and to provide foods that suit every taste and budgets” said Ian White of eatpure’s management team ”we try different things all of the time and are always looking for the customers feedback and to give them a reason to come back again and again”

Other products available include a wide range of fair trade produce and lots of healthy snacks to keep you going!

Eatpure have supported both these projects with vending support operations to ensure that there are always hot beverage options to hand and prides itself on amazing coffee served with an awful lot of love.

For more information on how we can help your organisation with more great food ideas at your workplace - please visit the café & vending page on our website or call Ian White on 01707 331751
